How Do You Preserve Memories?

December 17th, 2009 by Chuck | Comments Off | Filed in Scrapbooking

The test is positive and you are going to be a new parent. This is a very exciting time in the life of a couple. In just a few months there is going to be a new baby and you are going to be responsible to care for that child.

Those first few weeks, the human baby is very helpless and will depend on you for food, protection, warm clothing, diaper changes and every other need of life. However, in only a few short months, you will find that you are shopping for toddler baby bedding.

Getting started on scrapbooking.

August 6th, 2009 by Donna | Comments Off | Filed in Scrapbooking

mom-and-dadI have talked a few of times about getting started with your scrapbook, but lets talk a little more about it.
When my mom and dad died I was looking thru their things trying to decide what to keep, what to give to my brothers and sisters and what to just get rid of. Well that is a hard thing to do but you have to do it. Anyway my point is you will be surprised at what you find. Remember the old scrapbooks that had a board for the cover and the construction paper like pages. Well I found one that my mom had years ago when my mom and dad were dating and when they got married. So yes my mom was making a scrapbook years ago. So many people were scrapbooking and didn’t know it was going to be such a hobby now.
When I started I went to the stores in my area that sold scrapbook supplies and bought a little at a time and bought a lot of things on sale.
The easier way to start out so you don’t spend money you don’t have. I would take out the pictures that I would want to scrapbook first. Then I would buy the book, on sale if possible. I would then check the stores for scrapbook supplies and who have the best sales or prices and buy the paper, stickers, and embellishments that would go with the theme or pictures that you want to scrapbook first.
When you pick your pictures that you want to do, you can just do some of your children that you have from certain times of their lives or events in their lives, for example Births, Birthdays or the first time event in their lives. You can do one for all the children in one album or do an album for each child. What you feel you would want as a memory.
Buy a couple scrapbook magazines or go online and look at the web sites out there and get some ideas for pages. My web site offers all of those things just look around.
Your pages and albums can be as simple or detailed as you would like. Always try and journal on the page. It helps tell who, what and where. The date is always important. This album will be passed on, it is important to have that information. Ever take out pictures that no one wrote on the back so your not sure who, when and where. I have lots of pictures from my mom and dad’s things that I will have to talk to someone in the family to see what they can help me with.
So start out slow, gather pictures, get supplies, write out the who, what and where. Then sit down pick out your background paper, layout your pictures, stickers and embellishments on the page, see if it is what you want on the page, then when you’re sure start put them on the page. I use glue tabs. Makes it simple and quick when mounting your pictures and things on the page.
Put your album together the way you want. The album is yours and you want it to reflect you and your family.
Questions??? Ask away I’ll try and help.
Enjoy your scrapbooking experience. Have fun with it.

Taking a road trip.

July 22nd, 2009 by Donna | Comments Off | Filed in AnyThing

So me and my daughter Korine are taking a road trip to KC. There is a Culinary Arts School there she wants to attend, we are going to look at the campus and see if it can be worked out for her to take classes there. She will have to commute but she may only have to do it 2 to 3 days a week so it may not be too bad as if she was  getting a job there and having to drive it everyday. She is really excited about the school because there is a lot of hands on training there and I think you learn better that way. She has always loved to cook. I think it runs in the family my mom’s dad, my mom, me, Korine and Torrie my grandaughter loves to help in the kitchen too. So who knows maybe Korine can teach me a few things too.  Wish us luck. Thanks.

Went scrapin this past weekend.

June 30th, 2009 by Donna | Comments Off | Filed in Scrapbooking

Got the flowers finished for her wedding that job is done. We finished them on Fri. So I was able to go scrapbook on Sat . I did some older pictures and some newer ones. It is so much to mix them up. I don’t have any themed scrapbooks besides my Wedding and Honeymoon albums. All my other albums are just random pages. I have them with all different events and years. I like the changes in years and pictures as I go throught the album. I plan on making my mom and dads 8×8 album with just them in it also but my other albums I like the randomness. My one girlfriend likes to do themed albums and my other girlfriend likes to do hers with different years also. So I guess it’s whatever you prefer. Either way putting an album together however the taste is very relaxing and fun. So go have some fun and relax. LOL!

Restoring your old photos at home.

May 15th, 2009 by Donna | Comments Off | Filed in Scrapbooking

I am really excited about starting an album for my mom and dad’s old pictures. The album will have just the pictures of them when they were younger up until they passed away. I think it would be a great thing for my granddaughter Torrie to have if I passed and hope my daughter would do the same with my pictures. She isn’t as scrap happy as I am but she has done it a few times with us. Lord knows she would have plenty of supplies to do it. LOL! I will have to scan off the pictures on the printer and I will either print them at home or send them in to get them printed. BUT! When you do old photo’s you have to try and restore them. I have found a great program to do on my HP printer at home but there are some places that you can go and have them done also. I did a few of the older photos of my girlfriends and WOW! On the HP printer program they looked great. Some of the marks or wear and tear you cannot get any better when you do it at home, maybe if you take them in somewhere where they do that kind of work you can, but if you get them to look a little better before you scrapbook with them it is always a plus too. The one photo I did for her was a photo of her Uncle and it was 82 yrs old. It looked really ruff, but with the program I could get it to lighten, take out some of the scratches and make it a little clearer. So it is definitely fun to play around with them when you are going to scan them off and use them in your album. When I get some of the pages done in my album I will definitely have to take some pictures and show them to you. I will try and take one of them and save it to my computer when I scan it and then save it when I restore it. Then hopefully show you the difference.
