I have talked a few of times about getting started with your scrapbook, but lets talk a little more about it.
When my mom and dad died I was looking thru their things trying to decide what to keep, what to give to my brothers and sisters and what to just get rid of. Well that is a hard thing to do but you have to do it. Anyway my point is you will be surprised at what you find. Remember the old scrapbooks that had a board for the cover and the construction paper like pages. Well I found one that my mom had years ago when my mom and dad were dating and when they got married. So yes my mom was making a scrapbook years ago. So many people were scrapbooking and didn’t know it was going to be such a hobby now.
When I started I went to the stores in my area that sold scrapbook supplies and bought a little at a time and bought a lot of things on sale.
The easier way to start out so you don’t spend money you don’t have. I would take out the pictures that I would want to scrapbook first. Then I would buy the book, on sale if possible. I would then check the stores for scrapbook supplies and who have the best sales or prices and buy the paper, stickers, and embellishments that would go with the theme or pictures that you want to scrapbook first.
When you pick your pictures that you want to do, you can just do some of your children that you have from certain times of their lives or events in their lives, for example Births, Birthdays or the first time event in their lives. You can do one for all the children in one album or do an album for each child. What you feel you would want as a memory.
Buy a couple scrapbook magazines or go online and look at the web sites out there and get some ideas for pages. My web site offers all of those things just look around.
Your pages and albums can be as simple or detailed as you would like. Always try and journal on the page. It helps tell who, what and where. The date is always important. This album will be passed on, it is important to have that information. Ever take out pictures that no one wrote on the back so your not sure who, when and where. I have lots of pictures from my mom and dad’s things that I will have to talk to someone in the family to see what they can help me with.
So start out slow, gather pictures, get supplies, write out the who, what and where. Then sit down pick out your background paper, layout your pictures, stickers and embellishments on the page, see if it is what you want on the page, then when you’re sure start put them on the page. I use glue tabs. Makes it simple and quick when mounting your pictures and things on the page.
Put your album together the way you want. The album is yours and you want it to reflect you and your family.
