Titles and Phrases.

August 10th, 2009 by Donna | Comments Off | Filed in Scrapbooking
scrapncrafts-08-0723You’ll want to add phrases, captions, poems or comments to your page, they add to the story on the page.
If you like your hand writing you can write it on the page in a small area that you left open when mounting the items to the page. If you don’t have very good hand writing you could also write it out on the computer. Adding a poem or paragraph helps tells the story of the page also. Doing this on the computer with different text or images would make the task easier and neater. Print it on acid free and lignin free computer paper. You can find the paper at your local stores that sell computer paper and office supplies.
Printing it out on the computer with different fonts or colors can make the page a little more interesting. People say they do not like their own hand writing or they worry they do not write neat enough. Using the computer takes care of that worry.
Some of the journaling I do on my pages I add by writing on a shape on the page. A simple square or circle.Maybe putting a tag on the page that I wrote on. Sometimes for fun I put a shape relating to the picture and page. For example: If it is a page with bath pictures trace and cut out a duck in yellow paper and write on it and mount it on the page. Always have fun with it.
Til next time, Donna

Getting started on scrapbooking.

August 6th, 2009 by Donna | Comments Off | Filed in Scrapbooking

mom-and-dadI have talked a few of times about getting started with your scrapbook, but lets talk a little more about it.
When my mom and dad died I was looking thru their things trying to decide what to keep, what to give to my brothers and sisters and what to just get rid of. Well that is a hard thing to do but you have to do it. Anyway my point is you will be surprised at what you find. Remember the old scrapbooks that had a board for the cover and the construction paper like pages. Well I found one that my mom had years ago when my mom and dad were dating and when they got married. So yes my mom was making a scrapbook years ago. So many people were scrapbooking and didn’t know it was going to be such a hobby now.
When I started I went to the stores in my area that sold scrapbook supplies and bought a little at a time and bought a lot of things on sale.
The easier way to start out so you don’t spend money you don’t have. I would take out the pictures that I would want to scrapbook first. Then I would buy the book, on sale if possible. I would then check the stores for scrapbook supplies and who have the best sales or prices and buy the paper, stickers, and embellishments that would go with the theme or pictures that you want to scrapbook first.
When you pick your pictures that you want to do, you can just do some of your children that you have from certain times of their lives or events in their lives, for example Births, Birthdays or the first time event in their lives. You can do one for all the children in one album or do an album for each child. What you feel you would want as a memory.
Buy a couple scrapbook magazines or go online and look at the web sites out there and get some ideas for pages. My web site offers all of those things just look around.
Your pages and albums can be as simple or detailed as you would like. Always try and journal on the page. It helps tell who, what and where. The date is always important. This album will be passed on, it is important to have that information. Ever take out pictures that no one wrote on the back so your not sure who, when and where. I have lots of pictures from my mom and dad’s things that I will have to talk to someone in the family to see what they can help me with.
So start out slow, gather pictures, get supplies, write out the who, what and where. Then sit down pick out your background paper, layout your pictures, stickers and embellishments on the page, see if it is what you want on the page, then when you’re sure start put them on the page. I use glue tabs. Makes it simple and quick when mounting your pictures and things on the page.
Put your album together the way you want. The album is yours and you want it to reflect you and your family.
Questions??? Ask away I’ll try and help.
Enjoy your scrapbooking experience. Have fun with it.

Scrapbook Tools and Scrapbook Materials for Creating Beautiful Memory Books

July 30th, 2009 by Chuck | Comments Off | Filed in Scrapbooking

scrapncrafts-08-025Have you heard of the hobby that has the entire North America in a frenzy? It’s scrapbooking. From ordinary cutting of photos and putting flourishes, the craze of making scrapbooks has gone beyond the simple and expanded into one complicated activity.

With the tremendous growth of this craft in recent years, many scrapbook tools and scrapbook materials have been created to make it more enjoyable. Over are the times when you have to dye the paper yourself, cut the visuals and paste the garnishing. Most people don’t even use their own drawings any more. And certainly, only a couple of even make their own scrapbooks.

4 Christmas Crafts For Kids

June 30th, 2009 by MelanieSmith | Comments Off | Filed in Arts and Crafts

Kids are astoundingly innovative. Hand them a cardboard box and they will make a car out of it, or an ingenious doll house. Hand them a rubber band and they can turn it into a gun. My kid found a big rubber band that was used by the florist and before I knew it, he made it into a gun with the use of that rubber band and lego bricks. It shot out lego bricks across the living room.

Getting children to create Christmas presents for their friends and family members is a definite means to keep them happily busy and with any luck out of trouble. Here are a few ideas.

Easy Easter Bunnies

February 25th, 2009 by Donna | Comments Off | Filed in Arts and Crafts

0183

These guys were really easy. We used 2 wooden spools painted white and hot glued together, dressed them with material and ribbon. Drew on their faces with a black pen. The one bunny has material for ears and the other has pipe cleaner ears. We used some little baskets and eggs for embellishments. The arms are pipe cleaners, 1 we covered with batting and material. Also so it would stand better we painted a wooden heart white and glued it on the bottom for feet. They were fun to make are so cute. There are a lot of different materials you can use to make your bunnies. Just look around the house sometimes you have things sitting around that can be used. Also checkout the stores near you for sales, especially after Easter for next years crafting.
