How Can We Cut Costs Without Bleeding?

November 21st, 2008 by kphirst | No Comments | Filed in Humor

One way to cut the cost of living is to cut the amount of electricity we use. A brick, the box that’s attached to a power cord, consumes electricity even when the laptop, cell phone or other piece of electronics isn’t plugged into it. Televisions and cable boxes use power even when they are turned off and a big screen TV can use as much power as a refrigerator. Then there’s that innocent-looking, electric toothbrush. Leaving that plugged in uses two watts of electricity. That may not seem like much, but it could be more than is used by the bathroom lights. To plug in on electricity savings we have to unplug.

When searching for wholesale gemstone beads, jewelry designers know they have plenty of choices. Finding these unique beads can be expensive and wholesalers can help reduce the cost. While price is important, it shouldn’t be the only factor when determining which gemstone wholesaler to purchase beads from. The company should also offer a large selection of unique beads and a no hassle return policy in addition to competitive wholesale prices.

November 17th, 2008 by mawilson | No Comments | Filed in education

College tuition has been rising faster than inflation, but is now set to accelerate even more in the near future. And this trend could last for years due to the number of factors involved.

The cost of higher education is one of the most significant costs that families face. It is more important than ever for families to develop a plan for college expenses. While a plan does not ensure success, no plan at all could have a devastating affect on long-term family financial health.

In 2008 Should Economy Be Spelled Econome?

November 16th, 2008 by kphirst | No Comments | Filed in Humor

Eighty percent of Americans are feeling financially stressed by the economy. This was one of the findings of the American Psychology Association survey conducted April-September 2008. Approximately half the 7,000 respondents worried most about providing for their families and the other half worried most about job security, but women worried more than men. This was attributed to women, as a group, being less financially secure. As to how the stress was felt, 47% had headaches, 35% had upset stomachs and 34% had muscle tension. Obviously, there’s more than one way to feel a financial pinch.

Revisiting the Best Way to Find Scrapbook Customers

October 21st, 2008 by DawnStegall | No Comments | Filed in Arts and Crafts

In a previous article, I discussed the best way to find scrapbook customers. In two words, the best way is with craft fairs. Why? Because that is where your potential customers are shopping. I understand your initial reaction may not be in agreement.

Overcome Craft Fair Negativity

The sheer thought of building up an inventory that may or may not sell, packing up the car, driving, unpacking the car, setting up an attractive display and sitting all day hoping for some sales is just not my idea of a productive Saturday. Does this sound like you? If so, I’ve been there. However, are these thoughts realistic? In reality, this negative attitude probably will yield the results you fear.

Does Charity Really Begin At Home?

May 11th, 2008 by kphirst | No Comments | Filed in Humor

When we lived on the East Coast, my husband found out charity didn’t begin next-door. That’s where having a half acre of land inspired him to become a beekeeper. He had a hive, protective clothing and a smoker - but we never had honey. A neighbor sued my husband for creating “a nuisance caused by unleashed pets”. The neighbor wasn’t sweet on the idea of bees.

Did You Play Rich Man, Poor Man?

April 26th, 2008 by kphirst | No Comments | Filed in Humor

“Rich Man, Poor Man” was a game I played as a child. The first button on my clothes was rich man - the second was poor man. Buttons three through eleven were beggar man, thief, doctor, lawyer, Indian chief, soldier, sailor, tinker, tailor. My last button foretold who I would marry. The game hasn’t changed, but my definition of husband material has.

As a child I thought a millionaire was a rich man. I didn’t know about taxes and income brackets. Now I think a rich man is one who’s happy with what he has - and, of course, isn’t against being happier.
