		<description>These are all great ideas but I would like to say more about the smoke detector.
IMHO &#039;near&#039; the bedroom is NOT sufficient.
If you look at the rooms in your home you will notice in most cases that there is a foot or more of wall space above the door.

Smoke is generally a first indicator that something is amiss and there may be several minutes where the smoke is contained within the room before it reaches the detector outside of the room.

I realize everyone&#039;s experience may be different but in my case we were sitting 20 feet away from the room where an electrical short started the mattress on fire.
Our first indication of something wrong was a tripped circuit breaker. 1 minute later the smoke detector went off.
The mattress was already in flames and the room totally filled with smoke.
I firmly believe that had the detector been in the room we would have had been made aware several minutes sooner.</description>
