How to Make Your Own Baby Gift Baskets

July 28th, 2008 by DanielMillions | No Comments | Filed in Gift Ideas

When a new mom has her baby, it is ideal to give her a gift she’ll truly enjoy. Often the new mom receives duplicates or even triplicates of some gifts and these gifts are simply not as appreciated as others. A unique and creative idea for a baby gift is to give a gift basket with a fun theme.

There are many great themes for a baby gift basket. The very best gift basket theme keeps both the baby and the new mom in mind. Certainly, there are many different likes and tastes to please. A gift basket is a great way to give anyone lots of little treats instead of a larger gift. It is also a fun way to package several gifts.

Organic Baby Gift Basket. Many moms are turning to organic products for their babies. Organic cotton clothing and diapers are popular choices. Organically produced shampoo, lotion and other baby products are also ideal. An excellent idea for this baby gift basket are small sizes of organic baby food products any new mom would be sure to appreciate. A book about living organic would be a great introduction to the organic lifestyle if the new mom needed more information.

Baby Toys Gift Basket. Every mom knows that an active baby is a happy baby! A happy baby means a happy mommy! Moms love to find great ways to keep their babies active. There are lots of great toys that babies love that would make a wonderful baby toys basket. Fill this basket with stuffed animals, a mobile and toys that will keep that adorable baby happily occupied.

Baby Books Gift Basket. There is nothing like getting your child started on a love of books at an early age. Children that grow up reading grow up more confident about school and learning. Bill Clinton once said on this exact subject, “Readers are leaders.” Fill a baby gift basket with great baby books. What is so popular with babies and moms today are board books. These books are sturdy and will stand up to being tossed or chewed or anything else that a baby just might do to a book. Some popular baby books include Goodnight Moon and Green Eggs and Ham.

Pampering Mom and Baby Gift Basket. This is a great gift basket idea to keep both the new mom and baby very happy. Giving birth can be both an exciting and very stressful time. A gift basket filled with little treats for both mom and baby shows that you are encouraging this new mom to take good care of herself too. We all know that some moms will put themselves at the very bottom of the list and never take care of their own needs.

A gift certificate for a massage, chocolates or a good romance novel could be great ideas for the new mom. The baby would love a soothing baby lotion ideal for nighttime. There are nighttime baby lotions with lavender and chamomile that encourage the baby to lull them to sleep. A CD of lullabies would be a lovely gift. A handwritten note promising to babysit is a gift that would please both mom and baby!

Gift baskets make a wonderful gift, especially for the new mom and her baby. This is a great way to give a creative and very personal gift. You can often find pretty baskets, cellophane and satin ribbons at your local craft store. These items will easily “dress” any basket and make it look so beautiful for that new baby gift.

There’s Something Hidden Inside!

June 19th, 2008 by EleanorCrawford-Page | No Comments | Filed in Gift Ideas

As a stay at home mother, it does not take much to highlight my day. Something out the ordinary occurring, other than waking up to children fighting or spilling all the cornflakes out of the container. You could say that I do not have high expectations for my day, as long as all children are dressed, I am showered and dressed and the kids get to school on time – I am fairly happy. Then starts the daily chores of maintaining our home, the one thing I most hate about being a stay at home mother.

The other day my day was made when unexpectedly my postie knocked on my door, now normally that would be enough because we do have a particularly good looking postie, but today was extra special because he had a parcel and it was addressed to me. ALL MINE. I had not ordered anything so it was a mystery. Now because these mysteries don’t occur very often I wanted to savour the moment. I went and made myself a cuppa, sat at the table with a snack and proceeded to dissect the parcel. I did not want to shake it, it may have been fragile, it was not heavy and there were no easily identifiable markings on the outside as to where it had come from. I could not wait a moment longer.

I opened the parcel to find a beautiful piece of handmade jewellery, that my husband had purchased online. Just because, no special reason. I felt wonderful, loved and treasured. I told you it does not take much to make my day. So I quickly finished my daily chores, popped on my new handmade necklace, some make up and went up to the local shops to brag about my wonderful husband. I was the envy of all the women I ran into. Even if the necklace was not to their liking they were envious of what a thoughtful husband I had.

When my husband got home from work that night I asked him how he had attacked his plan. With the greatest of ease he said he just searched “handmade jewellery” on the internet, a whole range of sites came up it was just a matter of look and find the perfect piece. I asked him why handmade – he said that he wanted something unique to send me, something a little different from what everyone else had.

He knew I loved little surprises in my day, so buying something over the internet served several purposes. One it was quick and easy for him to fit into his busy schedule. There is such great selection on the internet he was able to find a great gift for a great price and lastly, it would be delivered so I would be surprised.

It all worked, I had not suspected a thing. What a wonderful way of letting a spouse or loved one know how much you care or just that you were thinking of them.

As I had enjoyed my surprise so much the next day I got on the internet and searched for the perfect present for my sister who lives in another state. As we do not live close we do not get to share lunches and coffees with one another. So I thought I too would search for a handmade item, maybe a fashion handbag. Something she can use every day and when she does she will know that I am thinking about her. I found a great site that had a range of unique gifts, one just right for what I wanted. Best of all I didn’t need to make time to go to the post office as the parcel is just delivered straight to her. You just give them the delivery details – too easy.

My sister rang me when she received her parcel; she too had enjoyed her surprise. It was just so easy to make her day and really not expensive either, but I had never thought to search the internet for inexpensive handmade gifts. The internet certainly makes shopping a much easier experience especially for people with kids.

Set up the kids before you start searching, get the Lego or play doh out, get some pencils ready for colouring or pop on a DVD. The kids will be entertained and you will be amazed how easily you find what you are after.

I might go and pop my necklace on and head down the shops again, it’s my time to brag about my wonderful husband.

What Are Nappy Cakes or Diaper Cakes and Why Are They so Popular?

June 8th, 2008 by DarrenJohnson | No Comments | Filed in Gift Ideas

In recent years there has a been a strong trend to individualize baby gifts. Whether the gift is for a baby shower or given to celebrate the birth of a newborn, the search is on to get something expressive that really conveys the uniqueness of a special new life entering the world.

Couple that with the desire to give a gift that is practical as well as memorable and any gift giver has set themselves a hard task.

Enter the nappy cake or diaper cake – the name is interchangeable depending on your corner of the world.

So what is a nappy cake? It is an arrangement of nappies, that when finished, looks like a cake. They can be made as a single tier, or multiple tiers that look much like a fancy wedding cake. Decorated with ribbons, clothing, baby accessories such as bottles, baby lotions, rattles, clothing and soft toys – a well made nappy cake look stunning and will be a hit at a party.

Because of its versatility, the nappy cake crosses both roads of the baby gift admirably. The nappies and gifts contained within it are practical items which the parents will find very useful. Every new parent will be surprised by the constant amount of nappies they suddenly need for their new charge – and how the bill for disposable nappies quickly adds up. And the presentation will produce all the “oohs and aahs” every gift giver hopes for.

When choosing a nappy cake, inspect the extras packed into the cake for quality. Most of the expense of a nappy cake comes from the time intensive production of the presentation. But there should still be a good match between the quality of the ancillary gifts worked into the arrangement and the number of nappies the cake contains.

If you’re not sure, ask about the brand of blankets, lotions and toys used and make sure you’re getting value for money. The last thing you want is for the gift to look fabulous, only for the parents to be disappointed when they unwrap it and find cheap quality products hidden within. That also goes for the brand of nappies used to create the cake layers. Some of the cheaper brands are thinner, and therefore easier to bend or roll into a cake shape. However skillful cake artists can create the same standard of presentation from the thicker more absorbent brands that the the parents will appreciate far more.

Lastly, the nappy cake offers one more versatility that is a great advantage to the gift giver. For baby showers, if the parents are unaware of the sex of the child, nappy cakes come in any colour - such as a neutral lemon that would suit either a boy or a girl. And of course if you do the sex of the baby, then there are the traditional blues and pinks too.

So the humble nappy cake can make the ideal baby gift,as long as carefully selected, and the popularity comes from its innate versatility, practicality and the elusive “wow factor”. Not many gifts can claim all that.

Good gift buying to you.

A Mexican Gift Basket: More For Your Money

May 29th, 2008 by AnnieDubois | No Comments | Filed in Gift Ideas

Has this ever happened to you? At that baby shower you have been planning for months, you have a great time. The time for opening the baby shower gifts is at hand, and you excitedly wait for the new mom-to-be to open that new baby stroller you chose so carefully. Then you see the stroller come in and she is thrilled! Mom-to-be looks at the tag and squeals as she runs past you to another friend and thanks them. Yes, someone else bought the exact same stroller you did at the local mall because they thought it looked awesome too.

There is nothing quite as embarrassing as purchasing a duplicate present for someone you care for. Many years past, I can remember my son receiving four of the same purple dinosaur stuffed animals for Christmas. No one ever knew, and three children hopefully appreciated them because they were donated to a local women’s shelter. There is a way to avoid the problem of multiple gifts. Mexican gift baskets may be a great alternative for you and your recipient when you need something that is both unique and totally delicious.

There are many choices when it comes to a gift basket or box. My preference happens to be to fill mine with Mexican food because it is unusual and it is thoroughly appreciated. There are few people who do not appreciate good Mexican food. Whether you stick to something easy or more complicated, these are gifts that will be remembered and appreciated for years to come. In fact, you can add more than just food, you can add memories.

What can you add to these exceptional presents?

Consider the baskets or boxes. These are a great opportunity to offer a present within a present. The baskets can be beautiful, authentic matching the rich history Mexico has when it comes to basket weaving. Consider something small but authentic and this will be as appreciated as the contents of your soon to be present.

Consider the filler. Most baskets or boxes come with a filler material. This can be straw, paper, or some other type of filler. For these Mexican baskets I prefer straw. The straw is stable, inexpensive, and gives a beautiful look to the whole ensemble. Straw can be natural in color or even dyed to give you a look you want for your purposes.

Consider the filling! This is the best part of any gift basket. You can choose salsas, sauces, tortilla chips, recipes, hot sauces, and so much more on the edible side. However, there is also an inedible side too! There are decorations, seeds, glass goods, and so much more. You will most often find a mixture of edible and inedible items make a gift basket that will be in the heart of your receiver for years to come. Not only will they be fed but they will also have a beautiful keepsake or two.

When you are making a gift basket for your friends or family, you may just find that a delicious idea is waiting when you explore the cuisine and culture of Mexico.

How To Choose A Suitable Gift Basket

May 29th, 2008 by AnnieDubois | No Comments | Filed in Gift Ideas

When it comes to choosing a great gift basket, you will find there are a multitude of popular options ranging from cute to completely functional. The holidays are a popular time for gifts of this nature, and for good reason. These are well-received and extremely easy to find. However, if you want something that is a bit different, you will need to prepare well in advance. This does not mean spending a lot of extra time, but you will want to allot enough time you can get the perfect baskets or boxes to your door step in time for the event at hand.

There are a multitude of ways to choose the most suitable gift basket for your giving. Take a look at a few things to keep in mind when you are choosing the best baskets or boxes for your own!

Seasonal gifts are wonderful. Whether giving a present for a specific seasonal holiday or just because, seasonal gifts are filled with colors and designs of the season. Whether you are celebrating Halloween, Christmas, or Easter, there is a season for everything. For Halloween, you can choose dark oranges and blacks as colors, and of course, there are witches, pumpkins, and scarecrows to make things just a bit brighter. Seasonal gifts are always popular regardless of the giving reason.

Favorite colors are another great way to choose the gift basket you are looking for. These are usually going to be the favorite colors of the receiver just to make it personal. One of the great ways to choose a favorite color is to make one solid color choice, and then make a variety of opposite, contrasting colors. However, many people choose to use a solid color such as a bright red with a variety of shades of red to go with the whole ensemble. Either way you choose, this is going to be a smash hit!

Popular colors are going to be easy. For example, if you are making a gift basket for a new mom who just had a baby girl, popular and tradition colors are pink. Perhaps a pink box made up of candies would be a popular choice. However, many people are choosing to steer clear of traditional colors and go with a more neutral color suitable for any gender. These are great for baby showers as well as great for a new mom to receive while at the hospital.

Another great choice is to choose food baskets. Everyone loves food! Theming your gifts is an easy way to please everyone. For instance, Mexican food baskets or boxes are a great addition for anyone even those that need an exceptional corporate promotional item. You can choose chocolates, candies, fruits, vegetables, or even coffees for your gifts. These are popular and will definitely be appreciated regardless of what it is you choose. Of course, to make a great impression, you will want to insure it is of the highest quality!

Whatever type of gift basket you choose for your giving purposes will be a personalized touch from you to them when you choose something you like.

Father’s Day Gift Ideas For Your Husband: Nine Practical But Meaningful Ideas

May 24th, 2008 by bestselfhelp | No Comments | Filed in Gift Ideas

Father’s Day is a special time to celebrate and honor our dads, who do so much. Here are nine tips for helping your kids give a Father’s Day gift he’ll remember for years to come.

1. The best Father’s Day gifts are those that celebrate the paternal relationship as well as those that give a child and a father something to share in together. If Dad loves to ride his bicycle, plan a family bike ride and picnic, where you’ll present him with a new gadget for his bike, perhaps. If he’s a baseball fan, present him with tickets to a big game (and some to each of his kids, too.)

Think about Dad’s favorite things to do, and ask the kids to help you think of ways that you can help him spend more time doing it (or perhaps how to share those favorite activities with the rest of his family.) For men who love to grill, buy him a new apron (or decorate a plain one with fabric paints) and stuff the pockets with new marinades and barbecue gadgets. You can even buy a barbecue branding iron featuring his initials so he can brand his pieces of art as they come off the grill. If he’s a fisherman, treat him to a new tacklebox with hooks, bobbers, and powerbait. If he’s a golfer, take him out to the miniature golf course for a day of family fun, or to his favorite course if the kids are old enough to share in his game.

2. Write a letter to your husband to let him know how you feel about his role as father. Tell him what you admire about him and how he helps you in your role as mother.

3. Say it with photos. These days, online photo processing sites make it a snap to create unique and sentimental photo books and photo gifts, including mugs, mousepads, keychains, even keepsake boxes and playing cards, all featuring his favorite family photos.

4. Take a container that relates to a favorite pastime and make a treasured keepsake. First, cut out slips of paper and distribute them in the family so that everyone can write down their favorite memories with dad. Then put all of these slips of paper in an inexpensive container: a tacklebox, a new coffee cup, or an antique cigar case.

5. Dads make a lot of sacrifices for the family. Present him with something that makes him feel treasured. Some ideas: a nice new wallet or money clip with his initials; monogrammed cuff links or beer glasses; new slippers and a plush bathrobe or a gift certificate for a massage. Make sure to include a note from the family expressing your appreciation for everything he does as a dad.

6. Give him DVDs that you can watch together. Is he an Indiana Jones fan or a Star Wars buff? Get the DVD box set and make some popcorn. If he’s a gaming fan, present him with the newest game.

7. Treat him and the kids to lunch at his favorite restaurant and present him with tickets to a new movie he’s been wanting to see.

8. Make a batch of his favorite sweet treats.

9. The secret to being a good gift giver is to listen for those things that your husband mentions throughout the year. What catalogs or magazines does he flip through? Pay attention to the kinds of advertisements that make him pause. Men’s hints are sometimes particularly subtle, so be on the lookout and take notes on ideas for things he might like to have.
