Home Chef Cooking Tools

June 30th, 2008 by JamesBrown | No Comments | Filed in Cooking

The brand name tools used by home chefs across America create exquisite textures in food substances while some allow the full flavors to come from food. The cooking environments for some of these tools will be the kitchen counter-top, but most chefs will rely on basic home cooking appliances such as stoves and range tops to produce meals most of the time. Home chef cooking tools allow home cooked meals to be served throughout the day in one convenient location.

Home chef cooking tools will also allow meals to be served in an elegant manner. Home chefs can create creamy soups and they seem to taste better when they are ladled into bowls. Lasagna will be easier to serve with large serving spoons that are capable of slicing portions out of the pan and not scooping the portions into an unsightly clump on the plate. Cooking tools give cooks more control while serving hot foods and guests seem to enjoy meals more because they are on the table.

A home chef can orchestrate a marvelous meal when using cooking tools designed for outdoor living lifestyles. Family barbecues will go off without a hitch when the cook is using tools that allow them to grasp large cuts of meat and flip them in an instant. Home chefs that enjoy outdoor cooking will keep other home chef cooking tools indoors. Partitioned plates can be used to re-warm foods that were cooked on the grill earlier in the day.

Covered dishes can be home chef cooking tools that are perfect for busy lives. People can save money by carrying lunches to work in these sealed containers and home chefs do not have to bear great expenses by keeping the house stocked with disposable containers. Storage containers are one kitchen tool that home chefs rely on immensely. These tools allow foods to be prepared ahead of schedule, and frozen quickly for use on a later date. Some meal menu items can be stored in the refrigerator to provide fast snacks when children come home from school in the afternoon.

The home chef cooking tools can make entertaining at home a fun experience. Home chefs can maintain a myriad of wine glasses and other useful glass choices that are perfect for drinking champagne. Tabletop drink dispensers could turn any event into a more celebrated gathering when chocolate sauces are used as one of the cooking tools for the evening of festivities. Home chef cooking tools will allow guests to serve foods from covered containers and make clean up after an event an easy task to accomplish.

Not all tools used by a home chef will be used while cooking. A home chef can make any corner of the home a great place for guests to mix and mingle if the right kitchen furniture is in place. Some guests prefer to sit in barstools while conversing with family and friends and others prefer to use the standard kitchen table chairs as the place where they will exchange information with friends. Some home chef cooking tools will keep children occupied for some time because kids enjoy making custom-built sandwiches that are filled with the ingredients on hand at a party and they choose to use tools such as tabletop grills to heat them.

Healthy Cooking Appliances

June 30th, 2008 by JamesBrown | No Comments | Filed in Cooking

Home chefs have turned to healthier methods of preparing meals and using healthy cooking appliances in that effort. While still incorporating the use of pots and fry pans to prepare certain dishes, other meals are possible when home cooks change over to using smaller home appliances to cook foods for the family. Some families have grown closer because healthy cooking appliances are easy to operate by many members of the family.

Foods cook quicker with the healthy cooking appliances in the home. Families no longer have to worry about grease splattering because the healthy cooking appliances do not require oils or any type of cooking grease to release foods from cooking surfaces. The non-stick surfaces in many healthy cooking appliances have allowed home cooks to prepare beautiful dishes because the non-stick coatings allow the foods to brown evenly.

With the introduction of cooking oil sprays, all foods prepared with healthy cooking appliances are noticeably less greasy than meals cooked with oils. These sprays have been proven effective when cooks decide to cook outdoors. All meat types cook thoroughly and evenly on a metal grid and with the cooking sprays in place, families no longer have to worry about any type of meat sticking to the surface. Baking in the oven turns out perfect everytime when non-stick sprays are used in the pan and healthy cooking appliances such as toaster ovens will reduce electrical costs.

Whichever cooking method home chefs decide to use, there are healthy cooking appliances that will turn out superb meals every time. Many home appliances are designed with vented cooking surfaces that allow fats from foods to fall through. Foods are healthier when they are not allowed to cook in natural grease but some home chefs continue to use this cooking method because of the flavor these greases add to food products when they are finished cooking.

Cooking time has been significantly reduced with the aid of healthy cooking appliances. Table top grills allow home chefs to cook both sides of meat at one time and the cooking time saved is allotted to creating other healthy food items for the family to eat. A complete meal can be produced in less than an hour with the healthy choices in cooking appliances sold in stores across the United States. Families can incorporate the use of crock pots to cook while nobody is home to watch them because these healthy cooking appliances require no stirring.

Certain home appliances took the early lead in preparing healthy meals for the entire family. Microwave ovens are healthy cooking appliances because they require no oils to cook meals and fat can be easily drained from foods when cooks place paper towels underneath. These healthy cooking appliances cook foods faster than any other appliance and allow every member of the family the opportunity to prepare certain foods that will be served at a gathering. Safety is never an issue with healthy cooking appliances because covered dishes have been designed that will prevent splatters and spills from occurring.

English Independence Day BBQ Cooking

June 30th, 2008 by PaulYates | No Comments | Filed in Cooking

It all started over two hundred years ago with oppression and taxation by the British crown and ended up with a war. I am not sure why the American nation chooses to celebrate its separation from the British on July 4th but as a barbecue enthusiast I can really see the benefits.

Being a native of the country that lost the war of independence I look at our national holidays and wonder what I have done to deserve the dates we have. I guess the closest we come is St Georges day and that is in April. Have you ever been to England in April? Well if not, let me tell you that it is wet, overcast and usually blowing a gale so in general an all round misery and not conducive to a barbecue. Maybe that’s the reason why we do not celebrate our national saints day the same way that other countries do. Then let’s look at the other big celebrations:-

Easter – in March or April so generally the same weather as St Georges Day

Christmas – December can actually be a very peaceful month but still pretty cold for a BBQ

I hear so much about the Independence Day BBQ and what a great event it is that I am really jealous, it seems completely logical to me to have a national holiday at the height of summer and make an excellent opportunity for a party. So just needing any excuse to light the barbecue why not celebrate the fact that we lost the war in 1776? After that of course the only dilemma left to settle is what to cook?

In England we have the added confusion of the terminology because an American will call an English barbecue, a grill, and what an Englishman calls a meat smoker in America is called a barbecue pit. This makes some traditional barbecue smoker recipes difficult for an Englishman to do albeit I have got around this by investing in a Kamado ceramic barbecue but if an Englishman really wants a low cost method to indirectly cook then it’s got to be a large gas bbq grill that has at least two burners. In this way the food can be cooked over a drip tray on one side of the Barbie whilst on the other side the heat is applied to the coals.

So what do I cook? It is only right that an Independence day BBQ should be packed with the all American taste so for me it has to be a pulled pork recipe and / or a barbecue ribs recipe. Long slow cooking basted by a sugary viscous mop and a few soaked wood chips to complete the flavour – fantastic! It is always important to let the meat rest after the cooking process as this seals in the juices and during this time it makes perfect sense to be grilling that bbq appetizers. I go for some barbecue fish recipes because generally they are really quick to cook and offer a completely different flavour to the main course.

For dessert it has to be a blueberry pie but at the moment I have not been able to work out how I can do this on the barbie. I’ll keep trying and in the meantime I continue to send my thanks across the pond for a great summer party feast.

Going Green with Tagua Nut Carvings

June 30th, 2008 by SBeck42 | No Comments | Filed in Collecting

Tagua nut carvings may look like they have been produced from finest ivory, but the truth is, it has never been anywhere near an elephant! The tagua nut is actually a very hard nut that comes from a tree known as the ivory nut palm. This nut can be carved and polished to a high degree, making it difficult to discern from elephant ivory. The paleness of the nut and the ease with which it can be carved has made it very popular as an adornment or decorative piece.

The tagua nut carvings have often been referred to as vegetable ivory, or corozo, and needs to be dried out before it can be carved. While fresh, it has a flaky brown skin and it shaped a bit like a small avocado. These nuts hail from the South American rainforest, where they are found on the ground, often having been stripped of their skin by animals and insects. After being dried, carved and polished, these nuts can be used for a variety of purposes, including making beads, jewelry, and even bagpipes! In many ways, the vegetable ivory of the tagua nut carvings can do a great deal to relieve the desire for ivory.

Many humanitarians and environmentalists strongly support the production of tagua nut carvings. Not only can their sale save swathes of rainforest from being cut down due to farming, they can also replace the trade of elephant ivory, where elephants are butchered solely for their valuable ivory tusks. In 1990, the Tagua Initative was started, a conservation-based enterprise that was devoted to creating economic incentives for harvesting these popular and valuable nuts.

It is interesting to note that tagua nut carvings have, in some ways, been with the United States a great deal longer than you might think. For instance, until inexpensive plastic buttons came along, about 20% of all buttons made in the United states were made with tagua nuts. Today, Ecuador is a country that is known for its skillful tagua nut carvings, which can come in the form of boxes, jewelry, keychains and other ornaments. Tagua nuts have been carved for many years, but international markets are just beginning to notice how beautiful this material is and how skilled the artisans who carve it can be.

If you have an interest in tagua nut carvings, you’ll find that there are many different options available to you!

Choosing A Moving Company

June 30th, 2008 by anutt | No Comments | Filed in Family

Relocating your home is a stressful endeavor usually strewn with individual little challenges along the way. If you are hiring a professional mover to assist you, it is essential to choose a moving company that will make the process easier, not harder. In this respect, a big national moving company will serve you better than a locally based mover. Not only can you be assured of a competitive price, you will have peace of mind knowing your possessions will arrive intact, on time, and end up in the right place.

Since the Household Goods Transportation Act came into effect in 1983, the moving industry has become more and more seedy and represents an area where the consumer must be wary and cautious in order to guard against being taken advantage. Since there is more competition in the moving industry than ever before, most companies will do anything they can to offer the lowest possible price. Moreover, small, local movers will be apt to try to scam a hapless individual whose belongings can be held for a ransom. One common scam is the low-ball (and ultimately inaccurate) estimate.

A non-binding estimate can be a useful tool for a local moving company to make a sucker out of their latest client. An estimate is given, but, on loading the truck, it is discovered that the individual who is relocating has more stuff that was originally expected. Since it is already in the company’s truck, the person will have little choice but to pay to get his kidnapped possessions delivered to his new home.

National movers, since they have generally designed their pricing structures to assure the moving company makes a modest profit while still keeping their prices competitive. Moreover, a national moving company has less to gain from a scam, since their reputation on the national scene will suffer if it is known they give inaccurate quotes.

Local companies usually work on smaller budgets, so any extra money they can squeeze out of a particular job is worth it. Also, local moving companies are usually owned and operated by an individual who is directly influenced by the company’s financial gains, whereas a national company has salaried employees who are far more impartial and disinterested in the profit margin and more interested in doing a quick and efficient job.

As they are large and serve a great many consumers across the country, a national moving company will have better equipment and will be able to attract skilled employees who are happy with their level of pay. This ensures the people and tools that are handling your possessions will be less likely to damage or steal them in comparison to a local company, which will often buy one dolly and never replace it and service the trucks as sparingly as possible.

Finally, national moving companies tend to have the best insurance policies; designed to ensure that your possessions are safe. The most important aspect of relocating is ensuring that your furniture will get to its destination intact and on time, as anyone who has gone through a bad move is well aware of.

Particularly when it comes to inter-state or international moves, a national company is the safest route as they are expected to track their trucks movements and only an immaculate service record will keep up the moving company’s reputation. It is not that local companies do not want to deliver good service. But quite often, they cannot guarantee the same level of security as a national moving company can.

Premiere Van Lines is a national moving company that services all of Canada and some areas in the US. They have special units for each location; Calgary movers, Vancouver movers, Toronto movers and more.

How to Shop For Toys With Your Children to Fill in Their Wood Toy Boxes to Both Your Satisfaction

June 29th, 2008 by RonyPollock | No Comments | Filed in Parenting

It is your toy store nightmare. Your child is throwing a tantrum on the store’s floor, shrieking his head off, and obnoxiously demanding for that toy. You are helplessly looking on, while you are receiving judgmental glares and piteous looks from other shoppers, which make you want to curl up and hide in the wood toy boxes at home.

Then you start thinking about stuffing your child in his wood toy boxes! But you cannot, so you need to make plans to prevent another toy store nightmare.

Talk It Out

If possible, you can schedule a family conference regarding the planned shopping excursion. You can discuss which toy store to go to, what time you will be going there, what types of toys they are allowed, your budget, and the behavior you expect from them.

When you include your children in planning, you give them a sense of worth. After all, these will be their toys that will be added to their wood toy boxes, not yours.

Set Financial Limits

Before going into the toy store, you need to set monetary limits. First, tell your children how much you are willing to spend on how many toys. When you tell them your budget and why you need to stick to it, they will choose toys more wisely.

When you set limits, you teach your children the value of money and the value of their chosen toys. Hopefully, your children will take better care of their toys, and you can stop wondering where all the contents of their wood toy boxes have gone to.

Set Safety Limits

You need to tell your children safety requirements that you want followed on their toys. Tell them that only age-appropriate toys are allowed, which means that you will check labels for age requirements and care instructions. You also have to consider medical complications like asthma and allergies to certain toy components.

You will also need to check on sharp points and edges, small parts, loud noises, projectiles, cords and strings, and electrical hazards that might pose a risk to your child and to others. Indeed, you might also have to check if the toys can be stuffed inside their wood toy boxes, or should have containers of their own.

Set a Schedule

For many children, you will need to schedule who buys first. With small children, you have to accompany them, lest they break anything. For bigger children, you can let them explore on their own, but they should come back to a designated area once they have chosen their toy. This way, you can reduce the risk of anybody being lost in a shopping mall.

Set Behavioral Rules

Talk to your children about the behavior expected of them. For older children, you can ask them to behave appropriately, to call your attention properly when they see a toy they like, and to discuss its merits with you. For smaller children, you can direct their attention to the toys you want them to see. You can also ask your older children to help you explain things to their younger siblings. Often, kids have a language of their own!

When you have properly planned your toy outing, you are better prepared to deal with toy emergencies. Indeed, you will be filling in their wood toy boxes with toys - and not with your body or your children’s!

To give your children the rooms they want, get appropriate kids’ chairs and children’s bookshelves from RonJuneShop.com. To complete the look, opt for wood toy boxes that are both cute and multi-functional.

See How Easily You Can Stop Baby Gas Pain With Gripe Water

June 29th, 2008 by CherieStirewalt | No Comments | Filed in Parenting

Is your baby gassy?

If your baby relentlessly seems to be bothered by painful gas due to colic, as a parent, you may be extremely upset and frustrated when all your attempts to calm her come to no avail. You want to bring your baby that much-needed relief from the pain, but you don’t know where to start? Have you ever thought of gripe water?

Truthfully, all babies have gas to some degree. However, some babies seem to have more trouble than others expelling the gas. The gas bubbles build up creating the spasms that cause your baby such discomfort.

It is often rather difficult to track down the reason for your baby’s excessive gas. There actually could be a multitude of reasons. One culprit could be too many air bubbles (possibly through an unsuccessful breastfeeding latch or maybe a bad nipple design on a bottle). Or as with colicky babies, too much crying causes baby to swallow air which causes gas.

Another culprit could be either the nursing mom’s or the baby’s diet. Often times, baby’s have a difficult time digesting the same proteins some adults do (lactose intolerant). Or, if mom is nursing and is eating hard-to-digest foods like broccoli, beans or garlic, this will cause gas in an infant, just as it will in an adult.

Yet another culprit could be your baby’s immature digestive system. There is a theory that your baby’s digestive system is still growing and this is the cause of the pain and spasms.

Whatever the reason, you can do some things to ease your baby’s gas pain right away. Try to burp your baby regularly, try infant massage, change your diet if breastfeeding, try a different formula if bottle-fed or utilize baby leg exercises to expel the gas.

However, if none of these techniques seem to work, you do have another option. Try gripe water. So what exactly is gripe water?

Gripe water is a homeopathic remedy in use for over 100 years. It is wildly popular in Europe and is often given as a gift at baby showers! You can choose from several different types and brands of gripe water; but watch out. Some common formulations in the marketplace are not 100% safe and effective and may produce some side-effects.

What you want to give your baby is an all-natural, FDA-regulated, allergen-free, homeopathic gripe water that gently soothes your baby’s gas pain with no side-effects. Try to stay away from the gripe waters that contain sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). Baking soda has known side effects in infants that include a slowed growth weight, slowed learning ability, and decreased alertness.

Also, definitely stay away from the gripe waters that contain alcohol (for obvious reasons). Most brands are alcohol-free now, but double-check to make sure.

One brand that meets all these criteria is Colic Calm. Colic Calm is sold on the internet and works wonders in relieving baby gas pain. The relief is fast and effective. So, your baby need not suffer from gas any longer.
